It was the first time spending my first Spring Festival in China with my host family in Nanjing. It was SO cool!
A week ago, we cleaned the whole house. Mrs. Chen (my host mum) said it was to "sweep away bad luck" for the new year. Then we stuck the character “福” (Fu) upside down on the door—it meant “Happiness is coming!”
On New Year’s Eve, BOOM! Fireworks everywhere! Kids covered their ears but laughed because it was fun. Mrs. Chen said fireworks scared away a monster called “Nian”. After that, we ate a HUGE dinner together and said “Happy New Year!” Best. Festival. Ever.

Every year, I go back to Sichuan for Spring Festival. I plan early because train tickets sell fast! This year, I got my dad wine and my mum a cozy sweater. On the train, I heard Sichuan accent( 口音 )—it felt like home!
My parents told me news, “Cousin Lin got married!”, “Aunt Liu’s son went to college!” At home, we ate hotpot (yummy!). But the best part? Being together! When I was young, I loved fireworks. Now, family time is my favourite.

My husband and I are retired. We miss our kids and grandkids a lot! Before the Spring Festival, we get very busy. We buy their favourite dishes.
When they came home, the house was full of joy! The kids played and laughed. The adults talked and made JIAOZI together. JIAOZI are special—they mean good luck and happiness for the new year!
To me, Spring Festival is all about family love.
