一、完形填空。
I really love volunteering. For example, helping the homeless is one of my favourite
.
When I was at school, I often helped my classmates. It was fun to
their studies. I wasn't really a top student who always got the
grades, but I could explain questions to them
. Now, although I'm
, I often volunteer on my town's main street. Every weekend, other
and I make some dishes by ourselves, set up a table in the street and give the food to the homeless. However, we soon realize that food is not
because there are many homeless people. Most of the homeless people are
, because they have no friends or relatives. What these people also need is caring. So we always chat with them. The long day makes us tired,
it also brings me great joy.
From my volunteering, I
that helping others not only makes others happy but makes me happy. And maybe one day, the people you once helped would help you back.

What can you do to help yourself become happy when you are feeling a little unhappy? Some vinegar(醋) may help.
Some scientists in the US did a test on this. 28 people took part in it. The scientists
put them into two groups. Every day, people in the first group had four spoons of vinegar. Those in the second group only took one spoonful of vinegar. Four weeks later, the scientists tested the mental(心理的) health of everyone. The symptoms(症状) of depression(抑郁) went down by 42% for the first group and 18% for the second. At the same time, the level(水平) of vitamin B3 went up by 86% for everyone in the first group. The scientists said that having more vitamin B3 could help with depression and help people feel happy. However, the scientists only studied 28 people for this. In the future, they need to test more people for the result.
If you don't want to do the test on yourself, here are some other things for you to try when you are feeling down. First, spend 45 minutes doing exercise, like running or walking. Do this three times a week. Second, keep healthy eating habits. Try to have less sugar. Eat fruit, not sweets. Third, write down your happy moments(瞬间) once or twice a week. It helps you to look on the bright side of life. At last, go to see a doctor when self-help does not work.
