animals? The answer is volunteering!
Volunteering means spending some of
your free time, your energy or your talent
helping others.
People volunteer to help others in many
ways. The traditional way is to give away your
free time. Volunteers visit homes of old people
and orphans. They read books to them
and chat with them, which can warm their
lonely hearts.
In Shenzhen, China, school students
volunteer to teach children with cerebral palsy.
Their classes include painting and
learning numbers. "Spending some time with
these children makes me feel happy," Chen
Shiying, a 14-year-old volunteer from
Shenzhen Middle School said.
Here is a survey of 1,200 American
adults. It shows that 37% of the people would
like to help animals. And only 8% of the
people choose to help homeless people.
