任务三 阅读理解
A
After only a few minutes of walking down the road from where her house was, Dorothy and Toto found the yellow-brick road that the Witch of the North had spoken about.
"Well, Toto, here we go," said Dorothy.
For hours they passed through a beautiful forest, but then the land opened up on both sides of the yellow-brick road, and they were walking through a field. With no trees now, the sunlight shone down on them, and made them hot and tired. So she stopped to sit on the grass.
Corn was growing along the road there, and a scarecrow(稻草人) was there to keep the crows(乌鸦) away.
Dorothy looked at the Scarecrow for some time. "I must be too exhausted, Toto," she said. "I thought that I saw the scarecrow smile at me."
"That's because I did smile," said the Scarecrow.
"You can talk?" said Dorothy, amazed.
"Yes," he answered. "Could you help me down from here? It's very hot today, and I'm tired of working."
Dorothy then helped him down from the stick he was hanging from, and put him on the grass.
"Thank you very much, little girl," he said. "What brings you here?"
"I am going to Emerald City to the Wizard of Oz. My home is very far away, and I was told he could help me get back there."
"He can do that?" asked the Scarecrow. "I don't know. I was told that he can do many great things."
"Do you think that he could give me a brain(大脑)? I only have straw in my head now, and can't think very well. I have always wanted a brain."
"He might be able to help," answered Dorothy. "You are welcomed to come with me, and when we get there, I can ask the Wizard to help you."
"Really? You will do that for me?"
