During the Jin Dynasty, there was a young boy named Wang Xiang.
His stepmother, however, was a bad-tempered(坏脾气的) woman. She
was not kind to Wang Xiang. But Wang Xiang still took good care of her.
One winter it was very cold and snow fell for many days. Wang Xiang's
stepmother was sick. She wanted fresh carp for better food.
It was still snowing and the rivers froze(结冰) solid with ice. Where could
fresh carp be found?

Wang Xiang walked to the creek(小溪) to see what he could do. He
looked and looked, but found no running water. Tired and disappointed(失望
的), he sat down on the ice and cried.
An idea came to him as he cried. He took off his clothes, and lay down on
the ice. His body heat(热量) and the tears(眼泪) melted(融化) a hole in the
ice. Two carp leaped up(跃起) out of the crack(裂缝) in the ice. Wang Xiang
caught them and carried them home.
Seeing the two fresh carp, Wang Xiang's stepmother felt ashamed(羞愧
的). Later she became a kind person.
