Long ago,an old farmer and his son lived a peaceful life in a village. However, one night their horse was scared and ran away. Despite their efforts, the old man,his son,and villagers couldn’t find it. Everyone felt sorry for the farmer and his son,but the old man said that losing the horse might not be bad luck. The villagers were confused(困惑的):They did not understand his way of thinking.
Indeed, the event did not turn out to be so unlucky. The very next day,the horse came back, bringing along another beautiful horse. The villagers praised the old man,but he answered,“Maybe the return of my horse is not such good luck. ” Once again, the villagers were silent, not able to understand the old man’s view.
As time went by,the old man’s son started to like the new horse and rode it daily. However, one day he was thrown off its back and broke his leg. The villagers showed their sadness, but the old man suggested,“Perhaps this is not so terrible. ” The villagers fell silent, still not understanding the old man.
A few months later, war broke out. All the young men who were ready for battle were called up to join the army. The old man’s son,now disabled, was not required to join. The old man said to the villagers,“It all worked out in the end. My horse running away led us to get the second horse, which in turn stopped my son from having to go off to war. In the end,it was lucky that these things happened. ”
The villagers finally knew the old man’s wisdom and came to understand him.
