二、阅读理解 阅读下面的短文,然后根据短文内容,在每小题所给的四个选项中选出最佳选项。
(A)
Taking unkind words kindly
When I became a junior, I decided to take Latin (拉丁文) at school. I was so excited and really expected to learn it well.
However, the Latin class turned out to be quite boring. Each day, Mr Keady, the teacher, would ask us to open our books and read aloud the Latin forms of words. This was the way he taught us every day. That was until one afternoon when, once again, we were asked to open our books, and I decided to speak up.
When Mr Keady asked what was wrong, I explained why I found his class boring, how I had expected more, and that his teaching method seemed old-fashioned. When I finished speaking, I expected Mr Keady to angrily send me to the head teacher.
To my surprise, he sat at his desk quietly, looking disappointed (失望的) and tired. After a moment of silence, Mr Keady spoke. He quietly said that he would think carefully about what I had said. And that was it.
In the following weeks, the Latin class didn’t become the exciting learning environment I had hoped for, but Mr Keady did try harder to interest us in his classes.
Maybe some people would support what I did, but even so many years later, I feel bad about it. If I saw him now, I would tell him how much I regretted what I’d done that day in class. I would also tell him that he taught me a wonderful lesson that day. Following my unkind words, Mr Keady showed me that being hurt doesn’t mean you have to give away your dignity (尊严), and that no one — no one — can take it away from you.
( ) 1. How did the Latin class turn out for the writer?
A. Exciting.
B. Boring.
C. Challenging.
D. Fashionable.
( ) 2. What did Mr Keady do after the writer talked to him?
A. He became angry and talked to the head teacher.
B. He was speechless for the rest of the class.
C. He looked tired and started his self-examination.
D. He was surprised and promised to improve it.
( ) 3. What lesson did the writer learn from the experience?
A. One can always hold onto their dignity.
B. Unkind words can sometimes work.
C. Honest communication is important.
D. Don’t try to teach teachers lessons.
