Activity 2 One possible version:
Ann: Welcome to our school! How did you
join Blue Sky Rescue?
Volunteer: In 2008, my friend got a bad
head injury during a hike. We called an
emergency number. It was dark, and we
were lost. But the Blue Sky Rescue team
found us. That experience changed me. I
wanted to help others to be like them. I
signed up with Blue Sky Rescue in 2009.
Ann: What kind of work does the team do?
Volunteer: We do a lot. We teach safety
skills in schools and communities. We also
rescue people during emergencies. We've
provided medical aid and searched for
missing people after natural disasters, like
the 2013 earthquake in Ya'an and the
typhoon in the Philippines in the same year.
We even helped in places as far away as
Türkiye in 2023.
Ann: What have you learnt from being a
volunteer?
Volunteer: I've gained practical life-saving
skills. I've also realized that teamwork is the
key to successful rescues. Most of all, I've
learnt to value every life.
Ann: The work must be difficult. Why do
you keep doing it?
Volunteer: Yes, it is difficult and we aren't
paid. We often go without food or sleep. But
our goal is to save as many people as we can.
Seeing the people we save and knowing
we're their heroes makes it all worthwhile.
Ann: Do you have words for others?
Volunteer: We can't do this alone. I hope
more people will join us as volunteers.
Together we can make a difference!
Ann: Time flies! Thank you very much for
your valuable time.
