Do you know about Pablo Picasso? He is a famous painter from Spain. October 25th is his birthday.
Some people say Picasso’s paintings look like doodles. Why did he paint like this? “It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child,” Picasso said.
Picasso was a genius. As a child, he was better at drawing than many adults. He created his first painting at the age of 8. When he turned 13, he finished a painting of his family. It looked very lifelike, just like a work by the great Italian painter Raphael.
As Picasso grew older, he tried new ideas. He painted an item from lots of different angles all in the same picture. So, you see the front, the back and the sides of something at the same time. Picasso also used many shapes, such as circles and triangles in his paintings. In this way, his works look simple but creative, just like a child’s drawings.
“Every child is an artist,” Picasso once said.
Picasso saw his works get into the Louvre while he was still alive. He was one of the first artists in the world to do this.
