Have you ever imagined rice as big as peanuts*, with farmers resting under it? This was the childhood dream of Yuan Longping, known as the "Father of Hybrid Rice*".

Yuan Longping was born in 1930 in Beijing. His parents hoped he would study science technology. But Yuan loved farming when he was young. During holidays, he often watched how crops grew. In the 1960s, China had a serious food situation—many people didn't have enough to eat. Yuan felt sorry for it and decided to develop hybrid rice.
He failed thousands of times: young rice plants died in storms, and everyone around him doubted if he could do it. Once, he searched for one valuable seed in a field of dry crops for days under the burning hot sun. His clothes were with sweat all over, but he never gave up. In 1973, he and his team finally created the first hybrid rice. Overnight, China's rice harvest jumped by 20%, feeding millions more people. Later, he even tried to grow "seawater rice", hoping to turn salty soil into green land.
Despite his great achievements, Yuan Longping remained
Throughout his life, Professor Yuan threw himself into the research of hybrid rice. Today, his dream of "feeding everyone" still grows in every green rice field.
