Do you care about your neighbourhood? Joseph Beer really cares about his neighbourhood. Last summer holiday, the 15-year-old boy found he had lots of time in hands. However, he didn't spend his time playing video games or watching films. He did something meaningful for his neighbourhood.
The outdoor areas in Joseph's neighbourhood were not in good condition. Some road signs were dirty and some were covered with branches. Seeing this, Joseph decided to clean the signs and cut down the branches.
According to his mum, Joseph would go out in the morning and spend all day going around the neighbourhood and tidying things up. He wouldn't go home until late in the evening, and he would do it again the next day. He was tired but happy.
After some time, people in his neighbourhood saw his hard work. They shared before-and-after photos of the signs he had cleaned online. Many people were touched by his simple act of kindness. They were so thankful that they even gave away money to him. However, Joseph didn't spend the money on new tools or even something for himself. He donated it to a local food bank for families in need.
Joseph is happy to see their tidy neighbourhood. For him, that is the best pay-off for his hard work. It gives him a strong feeling of satisfaction and he plans to keep going.
