Everyone in Rosa's neighbourhood complained about the empty lot. It was filled with rubbish and looked terrible. Especially in summer,it smelled!
One day,Rosa's eyes were caught by the flowers in the window boxes outside Mr. Johnson's house. Suddenly an idea came to her. She shared her idea with her family and friends. Rosa's brother Diego agreed,"It's cool!" They all agreed that it was great to change the lot into a garden. Then they made posters to call on neighbours to join them.
On Saturday,the neighbors met at the lot with a common goal in mind.
"Let's get started,everyone!" Rosa shouted cheerfully,pointing to the mountains of rubbish around the lot.
Diego nodded in agreement and quickly picked up a plastic bottle. "Yes,Rosa. We can't plant a tree until we clean up this mess."
Maria,Rosa's best friend,joined in it,too. "This is our community,and we all need to take care of it," she said softly.
The work was hard,but no one wanted to give up. Diego showed Rosa how to properly deal with the broken glass,and Maria helped a younger neighbour lift a heavy bag of rubbish. They talked happily as they worked. These positive words and actions inspired everyone.
"Look at all the waste we've collected!" Rosa said. "It's amazing what a difference we can make when we work together."
Once all the rubbish was cleared away,the neighbours moved on to the next task.
