Topic: Is it still necessary to keep folk customs alive in the modern world?
I think (1) . We are living in a fast-changing modern world, and many traditional customs don’t fit into our lifestyle today.
First, many traditional rituals are too complicated and take too much time. We are so busy with schoolwork and travelling that we don’t have time for these procedures. For example, we have to clean the house and cook for days before the Spring Festival. It’s exhausting!
Second, the ideas behind some traditions are old-fashioned. Many young people today don’t believe in lucky signs or gods. Also, the custom of setting off fireworks causes air pollution and safety problems.

Traditions give us a sense of identity and belonging. When we celebrate traditional festivals, we feel connected to our family and our country’s past. Celebrating together also brings family members closer, which is important in our busy lives. For example, eating jiaozi during the Spring Festival is not just about enjoying food — it is about family reunion.
However, I agree that we need to change the way we celebrate to fit into the new era. We can use new technology to make it easier. Instead of physical red envelopes, we now send digital “red envelopes” on our phones. Instead of setting off real fireworks, we can use electronic fireworks. It not only keeps the spirit of the tradition, but also makes it safe and convenient for modern life.
