When I was a teenager, I was more responsible than today's teenagers. After school, I had to do lots of jobs at home. My parents were really angry when I didn't do my chores. Today's teenagers are lazier. They come home from school and then play computer games for the rest of the day.

Young people nowadays aren't better or worse than young people in the past. Teenagers today have the same problems that we did. They're worried about finding their own identity (身份) and their own place in the world. I once read this quotation: "Children nowadays just love the easy life. They're bad mannered, have no respect for authority or for older people, and they drive their teachers mad." Do you know who said that? It was Socrates (苏格拉底). He lived about 2,400 years ago.

In the media, they always say that teenagers have easy life. They say they're lazy and irresponsible. But I work with young people and lots of them are responsible and hard-working. I also meet teenagers who are opposite. Isn't it the same with adults? Perhaps teenagers have more money now. And they have lots of modern gadgets like MP3 players. But those things don't always make life easier or make you happier!

Who says teenagers have an easy life? Exams are harder now than those in the past. It's more difficult to get a job so your marks need to be higher. The media makes us worry about our appearance nowadays too, so a lot of teenagers aren't happy. They think they should be taller or thinner, like the people they see on TV. Maybe the problems are different from the past. But that doesn't make life easier. It's probably the opposite!
