I had a fun but embarrassing day today. I was invited to dinner at my classmate Lily’s home.
I was supposed to arrive at 7 o'clock, but I was 10 minutes late. When I got there, everyone was waiting for me, and I felt so sorry. Then, I wanted to shake hands with Lily’s mother, but she gave me a warm hug instead. I was a little surprised because I didn’t know the custom here. During dinner, I couldn’t finish all the food on my plate. I was worried that might be impolite. Today I learned that it’s important to know about local customs when in a new place. Even though I felt embarrassed, it was a good lesson for me.
