For many Chinese, Shenzhen is always on the list of the top Chinese cities where people would like to work and live. However, about 40 years ago, Shenzhen was just a small fishing village. On August 26, 1980, China decided to make Shenzhen the country's first special economic zone(经济特区). Everything has changed since then.

China's "melting pot(熔炉)" People in Shenzhen come from all over China. Some like hot food, while others like sweet food; some come from poor villages, while some come from big cities. Shenzhen is a place that has no dialects. No one feels like an outsider. Everyone there is a Shenzhener.
