Spring is a fine season. It lights up people's moods and brings hope. When you bathe in the warm spring breeze, what comes into your mind? Let's see what poets Meng Haoran from China and William Blake from the UK wrote about spring.
|A Spring Morning(By Meng Haoran)|This spring morning in bed I'm __▲__,Not to awake till birds are crying. After one night of wind and showers,How many are the fallen flowers!(Translated by Xu Yuanchong)|
|Spring(By William Blake)|Sound the flute!Now it's mute(无声的)!Bird's delight(快乐),Day and night,Nightingale(夜莺),In the dale(山谷),Lark(云雀)in sky,Merrily,Merrily merrily, to welcome in the year.(Partial excerpt)|
The first poem might be one of the most famous poems about spring in China. It's simple and catchy. The poet doesn't directly say how much he loves spring. Instead, he writes about details of the season: the birds, the wind, the rain showers and the fallen flowers. The way he talks about these things shows us the joy he feels during springtime. Instead of talking about the bright colours of flowers, Meng writes about the sounds of spring. He hears birds sing in the morning and remembers the sounds of the wind and rain at night. Writing about these sounds allows readers to picture spring using their own imagination.
William Blake's poem celebrates the coming of spring as a source of joy. As spring comes, nature leaps into new life, and the new year begins. People ask for the flute to be sounded as it is quiet everywhere. This will mean the end of the lifeless winter's silence. The birds in the poem are joyful day and night.
