Amazing young inventors
Young people are always full of cool ideas. Let's meet three teenagers who have made amazing inventions to help solve daily problems.
Ann: A special flashlight
Ann, a smart girl from Canada, invented a special flashlight at just 15. Normal flashlights need batteries or electricity to work, but hers doesn't need any batteries or electricity. It works with the heat from a person's hand! She got the idea from her friend in the Philippines who couldn't do her homework at night because of power shortages (短缺). Ann thought, "Our bodies produce heat all the time. Why not use it to make light?" After trying many times, she finally made a flashlight that really works with body heat. Later, she even made something cooler — a cup that can charge your phone with heat from hot drinks!
Kylie: A helpful backpack
Kylie, an 11-year-old girl from the USA, had cancer and needed to get shots (注射) every day. For the treatment, she had to carry a heavy machine that held the medicine. But the machine was so heavy that walking around with it was really hard. Kylie didn't like this, so she designed a new backpack that is light, colourful, and made just to hold the medical machine safely. Now, other sick children can also use this backpack to move around more easily. Both doctors and patients thanked her for the great solution.
Arsh: A talking device
Some people, like the late (已故的) scientist Stephen Hawking, cannot speak due to disabilities. They need to "talk" with special communication devices. Traditional devices are often slow and expensive. Arsh, a 16-year-old student from India, made a new device called TALK. It can turn breath signals into spoken words. Users simply breathe into a small microphone, and the machine translates their breath into words and speaks them aloud. Compared to older devices, TALK is much faster and more affordable.
