Western fashion designs in recent years, but a growing number of young people are now looking to the past for fashion ideas.
If you look closely around your city, you might notice hanfu, the traditional clothing that can date back to the Zhou Dynasty. A published report said that there would be about 6.9 million hanfu-lovers by the end of 2021, over 3 times as many as those in 2018, most of whom were between 16 and 24 years old.
But why has this traditional clothing become popular with young Chinese people? For some of them, it's a costume for relaxation. A young woman told CGTN that dressing in hanfu was a way for her to get away from the troubles of real life. Modern clothing, on the other hand, represents theidentity people need to show every day. "Hanfu and modern clothing help to show my different sides," she said.
Other teenagers like hanfu because of the culture behind it. They see it as a way to reconnect to traditions. Its wide sleeves, crossedcollars and flowing robes(飘逸的长袍) bring people back to ancient times.
"Hanfu is the symbol of the traditional Chinese culture," one costume studio owner told CGTN.
