Hansel and Gretel lived near a forest with their father and stepmother(继母). Their stepmother was very cruel. One year, the weather was so dry that no food grew. The stepmother told her husband to kill the two children because the whole(整个的) family would die if he didn't kill them. She made her husband take the children to the forest and leave them there. After knowing this, Hansel decided to save himself and his sister Gretel.
When their father sent them to the forest, Hansel dropped some white stones along the way. The two kids found their way back home because the moon shone brightly that night. Their stepmother was angry. But when she took the children deep(深入地) into the forest again, Hansel only had some pieces of bread and dropped them along the way. Unluckily, the birds ate all the bread and they couldn't find the way back home. Hansel and Gretel went deeper and deeper into the forest. They were hungry and tired.
After walking for a long time, they saw a house made of bread, candy and cake. "Look, Hansel! A wonderful house! Let's eat it!" shouted Gretel happily and they both ate it.
