The Great Apes
How tall are you?
The Great Apes
Read and answer: What are the differences between the gorilla and the monkey?
Have you ever seen gorillas? Gorillas are apes, not monkeys. Let's know more about them.

A large male gorilla may be up to 6 feet (1.8 m) tall and weigh up to 450 pounds (204 kg). It has strong arms, hands, legs, and feet.
Its arms are so long. In fact, its arms are longer than its legs. A monkey's arms and legs are about the same length. A gorilla's arms are stronger than its legs, too. The gorilla folds its fingers and walks on the back of the knuckles. This is called "knuckle walking". The gorilla does not have a tail. This is another way you can tell a gorilla from a monkey—monkeys have tails.

Gorillas live in the rainforest of Africa. They spend about seven hours a day looking for and eating food. A gorilla may eat up to 44—46 pounds of food in a day. They eat the leaves and hundreds of different plants, such as bamboo, flowers, fruit and ants. They can get a lot of water from their food.
The gorilla has a large brain, just like humans. At Stanford University in California, US, a female gorilla named Koko learned over 1,000 signs. She used the sign language to ask for a pet kitten. This famous gorilla could do many things. We all may learn something.
