Village Super, or cunchao, has gone viral (爆火) in China. Village Super is short for Village Football Super League (乡村足球超级联赛). On March 16, 2024, the second Village Super took place in Rongjiang County, Guizhou Province. A total of 20 teams of local people played for the honour of their villages. The teams competed on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, with the final competition on July 20. Organized by local soccer fans, Village Super attracted players from all walks of life, such as farmers, vendors (小贩), small business owners, construction workers and truck drivers.
Village Super is about people’s love and passion (热情) for soccer. In Rongjiang, every village has its own soccer team that takes part in weekend games. Different age group teams competed in these events, with the youngest group below 18 and the oldest group above 50. Also, Village Super provided a platform (平台) for soccer lovers to exchange ideas and improve their skills. Former Chinese national team player Fan Zhiyi and Hong Kong’s celebrity team also came to play in Rongjiang, leading to several high - quality friendly matches.
