Summer is a time of fun.
The best part about summer in Japan is the summer festivals. People sell food and toys along the roads. Others walk around. They all wear yukata, a kind of traditional Japanese summer clothing. It’s light and colourful. Boys and girls play festival games. Goldfish scooping(捞金鱼) is very popular. It’s not an easy game. They can only use a paper spoon and it easily breaks. Later at night there are big firework shows.
Summer in the United Kingdom is cool. The temperature is around 20℃. The cool weather is good for people to play outdoor sport. Cricket(板球) is a popular summer sport. Two teams take turns to hit a ball with a wooden bat. The country also holds big cricket games in summer.
In some parts of Northern European countries, such as Sweden and Finland, there is the special midnight sun(极昼). This gives people more hours to have fun outdoors. Another special thing about summer in these places is the Midsummer Festival. It usually falls around June 24. On the night before it, people will light bonfires(篝火) to drive away ghosts. They will also place plants all around their houses and wish for good health.
