Many years ago, David bought a small house in Sunshine Town, and he still goes there with his family every summer. The first time they stayed there, their neighbour Mary came and brought them some tomatoes and a bottle of wine. It was so nice of her to do it. But when they looked at the tomatoes, they were a little worried because they looked terrible. They are not like the nice, round, shiny things they got in a supermarket. And the wine was cloudy, in a funny old bottle without a label on it. These couldn’t be any good, they all thought. But they were thankful for her kindness, so they tried them.
What a wonderful taste! Those tomatoes made David think of the ones his uncle grew when he was a child. Nowadays supermarket tomatoes look perfect but they have a taste of water. Mary’s wine may be cloudy, but it was perfect.
It’s good to eat things at the correct time, when they’re in season, and as close as possible to where they were grown. What Mary gives them is the taste of Sunshine Town.
