Zhang Zhanshuo, a swimmer from Qingdao, China, is already making waves in the world of sports. Born in 2007, he first jumped into a pool at the age of six while playing near his home. His parents, both former athletes, saw his talent and pushed him to join the Qingdao swimming team at seven. Later, he became a member of the Shandong provincial team.
Life wasn't easy for Zhang's family. To pay for his training, they sold their house and moved into a small apartment near the sports school. Every morning, Zhang's mother would wake up before sunrise to cook breakfast for him and his father drove him to practise. “They gave up everything for me,” Zhang says, eyes shining with gratitude.
Zhang studies at Fudan University, where he balances classes and swimming. He wakes up at 4 a.m., diving into the pool before the sun rises. “When I'm tired, I remember my goals,” he says.
Zhang has won many titles. In 2023, he took gold in the 400m freestyle at the National Swimming Championships. At the 2024 World Championships, he helped China win two relay golds. In 2025, he broke the world youth record.
Despite all the glory, Zhang stays humble. “I'm just getting started,” he smiles. “I want to swim faster, go farther, and inspire others to chase their dreams.” His story proves that with passion, family love, and never-ending effort, even the biggest dreams can come into reality.
