Yao Ming was born on 12 September 1980 in China. He is 226 cm tall. He is the only child in his family. His father Yao Zhiyuan is 208 cm tall and his mother Fang Fengdi is 188 cm tall. Both of them were former professional (职业的) basketball players. When Yao was nine years old, he began playing basketball and attended a junior sports school.
