Long long ago, in ancient China, there were no donkeys in a place called Qian. One day, a man brought a donkey from somewhere by boat. He found the big animal was useless(无用的)indeed, so he tied it to a tree at the foot of a hill.
A tiger happened to see the donkey, and thought it must be a monster(怪物). It dared not to get close to it and watched the donkey behind a tree.
When the donkey brayed, the tiger was frightened(害怕的), thinking that the donkey was going to bite it. But to its surprise, the donkey did not move at all after the shout.
After a while, the tiger went close to it and teased(戏弄)it. The donkey became angry this time and kicked(踢)the tiger.
The tiger thought to itself, "That's all you can do?" It then jumped on the donkey and enjoyed a wonderful meal.
This idiom is used to mean someone has used up his skills.
