Santiago and the Big Fish
Santiago was an old fisherman. He lived in a small house near the sea. Every day，he went fishing. But he was unlucky. For 84 days，he did not catch any fish. Other fishermen laughed at him，but he did not give up. He always said to himself，"I will catch a big fish one day."
On the 85th day，Santiago went very far out to sea. At noon，something big pulled his fishing line. It was a huge marlin! The fish was very strong. It pulled his boat for a long time. Santiago held the line and did not let go. He did not eat much or sleep much. He fought with the fish for three days.
Finally，the marlin became tired. Santiago caught it and tied it to his boat. He was very happy and began to go back. But soon，sharks came. They smelled the blood of the marlin and wanted to eat it.
Santiago tried to fight the sharks. But there were too many of them. When he got home，only the bones of the marlin were left. People felt sorry for him，but Santiago was not sad. He said，"I fought hard. I did not lose."
