People have some useless or old things and they no longer want them. Yet it seems wasteful to throw them away. 1. They put them outside their houses and put up a “For Sale” sign. In some parts of the country, it might be called a garage sale. Sometimes, the sellers put an announcement in a local newspaper. 2. It lists some of the things to be sold.
These sales are very popular during weekends in spring, summer and autumn. Sometimes, there are more clothes than anything else. 3. So are old toys, tools, books and chairs.
Then there are objects called the “white elephant”. 4. Usually, the seller puts up a price tag on each object at a yard sale. 5. A table marked “Ten Dollars” may be sold for five dollars at the end of the day. Some people go to yard sales because they enjoy the activity.

My second piece of advice is to mark the important parts of your book. This will help you in two ways. On the one hand, it will help you concentrate on(专注于) the most important parts. Last year, I did not like my English class. Every class was like a bad dream. The teacher spoke so quickly that I did not understand her most of the time. I was afraid to ask questions because of my poor pronunciation. 1.
Then one day I watched an English movie. I fell in love with this exciting and funny movie. 2. Although I could not understand everything the characters(角色) said in the movies, their body language and the expressions on their faces helped me to get the meaning. 3. My pronunciation got better by listening to the conversations in English movies too. I found that listening to something interesting is the secret of language learning. I also learned useful sentences like “It’s a piece of cake.” or “You have my word.”. 4. But because I wanted to understand the story, I looked them up in a dictionary.
5. I want to learn new words and more grammar so that I can have a better understanding of English movies.
