One day a teacher asked his two students to meet him at the end of a road near a forest.
The students reached there as their teacher asked, and greeted him. The teacher said, "You have a task today. Both of you have to start here and reach the far end of the road. The task will also influence the result of your next test. You should prepare for the next test."
He wished them luck and left. Then the students set off together. Just after a while they saw that road was divided into two paths. The first student decided to choose the path which was clear and seemed to be easier to go through. The second student chose the path which was covered by a lot of fallen trees.
The first student walked quickly and easily because of no obstacles(障碍) in his path. He reached the far end of the road and finished the task first. He thought he was clever, and he felt happy. The second student spent quite a while reaching the destination as he had to overcome the obstacles in his path. However, he was also very happy, because he finally finished the task even though he chose the difficult path. When the second student reached the destination, the first student proudly said, "I am glad I chose the easier path of the two."
A few days later, the two students were asked to wait near a ravine(峡谷). The teacher looked at them and said, "Today's test is to jump to the other side of this ravine." The first student never did that before. He got scared and stepped back. The second student remembered how he jumped over wide gaps in the last task. He took a deep breath and jumped into the air. He made it!
After the test, the teacher said to the first student, "When you chose the easier path, it helped you complete that task easily, but you would not be able to prepare for harder tests."
