Zheng was a famous artist in ancient China. People came from everywhere to see his paintings. Zheng was proud of his paintings—maybe too proud. He thought he was the best artist in the world.
One day, Zheng heard that the emperor wanted to find an artist to draw for him. So, Zheng went to the palace with his paintings. Many other artists were there, but Zheng was sure that the emperor would like his paintings best. But when he showed his works to the emperor's advisor, the old wise man just smiled.
"Go to the Li River," he said. "The best artist lives there. You can learn a lot from her."
Zheng was very angry, but he packed his bags and travelled to the Li River. He got to a village and asked a woman, "Where does the best artist live?" The woman smiled and pointed to the river.
The next morning, Zheng took a boat and started his journey to find the best artist in the world. The small boat travelled quietly down the river, past forests, mountains and waterfalls. Then, as the evening came, the sky and water turned a beautiful blue colour. It was so wonderful that Zheng began to cry. And then he understood: the best artist in the world is Nature.
