A
Meng Chen is a university student in Beijing. Recently he goes to the Palace Museum almost every day. He tells visitors about the clocks in the Hall of Clocks (钟表馆). Meng is one of around 300 volunteer tour guides in the Forbidden City. One third of them are university students as well. They hang around the palace like other visitors, but with red volunteer cards on their clothes.
Meng said he loves spending time in the buildings where 24 emperors spent their whole lives. “Every brick (砖) has a story to tell,” he said.
But volunteer work is more than fun. Meng has to study for the job. It took him about three months to remember every detail of the clocks in the clock gallery.
Volunteer work can be frustrating sometimes. Often tourists turn down volunteer guides. “Too many people are in a rush (匆忙) to finish sightseeing (观光). They don’t have time to listen to us,” said Shi Hui. He is a university student who volunteers there like Meng Chen. On his second day, Shi walked around for three hours until he found a man in his 50s who was happy to listen to him. “It’s always fun to have listeners who are interested in your talk,” Shi said.

“You know, Annie,” my friend Nick said. “Lisa and Anita were just talking about you.”
“What did they say?” I immediately got nervous.
“They said that you join the Students’ Union just because the teacher likes you, not because you are excellent.”
I tried hard to keep myself from crying, getting down to my knees. After Nick told me everything that my so-called best friends said about me, I felt I was alone.
Lisa and Anita came back to the classroom, acting as if nothing had happened. Lisa was still my deskmate and Anita was still my partner for our History project. I was surprised that they were able to pretend (假装) we had the perfect friendship, especially they’d said such hurtful things about me.
I felt like I didn’t have a friend in the world, all because of gossip (流言).
The tongue can be our worst enemy. Gossip does harm to friendship. It is like a sharp knife, breaking one’s dignity (尊严) into pieces. When we say unkind things about others, we’re hurting their hearts. Gossip is harmful to friendship.
So how was I to act next? I thought of fighting them back. But instead, I told them directly they had hurt me. Lisa started explaining and Anita was speechless. I knew they were both sorry for what they had said. They said sorry to me, and I forgave them although I was still unhappy. Sure, things were a little embarrassing at first, but soon enough everything was back to the way it had been before.
Now I still deal with gossip from time to time. Talking about others is a part of our lives, but the more I learn about friendship, the more I realize the importance of forgiving others.

A. Annie paid no attention to Lisa and Anita any more.
B. Lisa and Anita came back to the classroom as usual.

D. Annie didn’t forgive her friends and their friendship broke up.
( ) 36. Which of the following can be the best title?
