An ocean is a large body of salt water. There are five oceans in the world. They cover about 71% of the Earth's surface!
Pacific Ocean
It's the biggest ocean in the world. The name "Pacific" means peaceful because it is calmer than the other oceans. Here you'll find the Great Barrier Reef(大堡礁), the world's largest coral reef. You'll also find Challenger Deep, the deepest place on Earth.
Atlantic Ocean
It's the second biggest ocean in the world. It's about half the size of the Pacific Ocean. Here you'll find the Mid-Atlantic Ridge(大西洋中脊), the longest underwater mountain range in the world, which runs from Iceland all the way to Antarctica(南极).
Indian Ocean
It's the third biggest ocean in the world. Even so, it's about 7.5 times bigger than the US! It's named after the country of India. It's the youngest of all the oceans.
Southern Ocean
It's the second smallest ocean in the world. It's also known as the Antarctic Ocean. It surrounds Antarctica and is the coldest ocean in the world. It is home to the emperor penguin.
