Living in a house made of fungi might sound like a story from a movie, but scientists are working to make it real!
Usually, people use cement to build houses, but this can hurt the environment. It puts a lot of carbon dioxide(二氧化碳) into the air. This is bad for Earth.
A group of US scientists tried their best to make hard fungi for buildings. Fungi grow in something called mycelium(菌丝体). This helps fungi find food under the ground. Mycelium is usually supple(柔软的), but the scientists put special bacteria into it. These bacteria make calcium carbonate(碳酸钙). This hardens the mycelium. It's also what hardens eggshells.
Now, the new material can stay strong for at least a month. Scientists are still working to make it last longer, long enough to be used in building houses. If the scientists can do it, we might use the hard fungi to build small houses.
(
A. To test the new idea from a movie.
B. To protect the environment better.
C. To cut down the price of buildings.
D. To take in carbon dioxide from the air.
(
A. To find food and grow.
B. To take in more fresh air.
C. To build small houses.
D. To make a new material.
(
A. By adding eggshells into it.
B. By changing its material.
C. By putting special bacteria into it.
D. By letting it grow for long.
(
A. The new material can stay strong for only a month.
B. Scientists used fungi to build a lot of small houses.
C. It's so easy for scientists to use fungi to build houses.
D. Scientists are trying to make the material last longer.
(
A. Scientists make cement stronger by using fungi.
B. Building houses is bad for our environment.
C. Scientists are working on a new building material.
D. Scientists try to know about a new kind of fungus.

Usually, people use cement to build houses, but this can hurt the environment."
Fungi grow in something called mycelium. This helps fungi find food under the ground."
根据第三段中the scientists put special bacteria into it可知,科学家通过把特殊细菌放入菌丝体中使其变硬。
Scientists are still working to make it last longer, long enough to be used in building houses."
