①“I spent several days trying to write one but failed, so I asked a Ph. D.(博士学位) student to make ChatGPT write one for me,” said Mo Yan. Can you believe that even Chinese Nobel Prize winner Mo Yan had asked help from ChatGPT to write a prize citation for another famous Chinese writer Yu Hua? How powerful the ChatGPT is! Since ChatGPT can write emails, computer code and has passed a number of tests, it has attracted wide attention, especially in higher education.
②According to a survey covering more than 100 educators and over 1,000 students,one-third of the educators believe ChatGPT should be banned in schools and universities. The New York City's Department of Education, for example, banned the chatbot from its public school devices and networks, with some people warning that it will make more students cheat.
③However, the rest of the educators in the survey regard ChatGPT as a blessing rather than a curse. They believe that chatbot-based knowledge accumulation(积累) may be more informative and attractive than teacher-student-based teaching for the younger generation. Compared with postgraduate students and scholars(学者),AI's ability to quickly gather knowledge will also help it better perform the routine tasks.
④Like roles played by most technological advances in history, AI should be and will become a powerful tool for the development of higher education worldwide. Therefore, accepting and working with AI as early as possible is advisable. Higher education institutions should make preparations for including AI in their subjects. Moreover, better understanding and application of AI will make the education system much more fair and thus help fight against cheating.
