Passage 2
A Heroic Journey in History
In 1934, something amazing happened in China. It was called the Long March. The soldiers of the Red Army started their journey from a place called Ruijin in Jiangxi. They had to go on a very long walk to find a safe place.
When the Red Army arrived in Guizhou, they faced new challenges.
First, they crossed the Chishui River, not just once, but four times! They were like clever fish, swimming away from the enemy. After that, they went to the Jinsha River and crossed it too, moving even further away from the enemy who were chasing them.
Then, something really exciting happened. They had to cross the Dadu River and capture the Luding Bridge. The soldiers were very brave. They rushed across the river and took the bridge. It was a big victory!
But their journey wasn't over yet. In Sichuan province, they still had to climb over the Jiajin Mountain. It was very hard, but they didn't give up. After that, they crossed the large grasslands, where they faced many difficulties, like bad weather and insufficient food.
Finally, after a long and hard journey, in 1936, they reached a place called Huining in Gansu province. The Long March was over, and it was a success!
The soldiers of the Red Army showed great courage and the spirit of never giving up. They are real heroes, and their amazing journey is a valuable lesson we should always remember!

Task 2
| Item | Content |
| ---- | ---- |
| When | In 1935, during the period the Red Army was crossing the grasslands in the Long March |
| Where | The vast wild grasslands on the Sichuan-Gansu border |
| Who | An ordinary young Red Army soldier who was assigned to guard the food supplies, and his hungry fellow soldiers |
| What | The troop had extremely scarce food when crossing the grasslands, all the dry rations were used up soon, and everyone could only chew wild grass and eat bark to satisfy their hunger. The young guard soldier carried a heavy grain bag sewn with the only little remaining barley flour, but he never took a bite of the food himself even when he was starving. He shared all the food out to the wounded and weaker soldiers, and finally he fainted and passed away quietly in the cold grassland, with his empty grain bag tightly held in his arms. |
| Your feelings: | This story makes me deeply moved. The Red Army soldiers are so great that they would rather sacrifice their own lives than leave their companions behind. Their selfless spirit and the strong will to overcome all kinds of difficulties are the most precious treasure of our nation, and I will always learn from them. |
