D 跨学科 中国二十四节气之一——立冬 (2026·连云港新海初级中学期中)
Lidong is one of the 24 Solar Terms(节气) in China. It is the beginning of winter. Lidong usually comes between November 7th and 8th each year. When Lidong comes, it gets much colder. In northern China, it often begins to snow, covering the fields and houses in white. In the south, there is no snow, but the temperature(温度) drops a lot, and people start to wear warm coats.
China was a farming country in the past. After a whole year of busy farming work, farmers finally had time to rest on Lidong. To celebrate the harvest(庆祝丰收) and welcome winter, they would cook a big meal with the best food they had. On Lidong, families get together to enjoy delicious dishes. In southern China, people enjoy meats like chicken, duck, and fish, because they think these foods can give them enough energy for the cold season. In northern China, especially in cities like Beijing and Tianjin, dumplings are a must-eat. Eating well can help people keep warm on cold days.
In the old days, Lidong was also a time for people to keep vegetables. At the time, there were not many fresh(新鲜的) vegetables to eat in winter in the north. There were also no supermarkets like today. So, in winter, people had no place to buy fresh vegetables. They put lots of vegetables in a cellar(地窖)—a cool, dry room under the house, to eat vegetables in cold winter.
