Letters from Istanbul
Day 1
Dear children,
Hello from Istanbul! I just got here and I’m already in love with this city.
My first stop was a famous shop named Haci Bekir. It is known for a kind of sweet candy called Turkish Delight (土耳其软糖). It is made with sugar and some kinds have nuts in them. I bought some for you. You have to try them!
In the evening, I went to Sultanahmet. I could smell fish cooking on boats by the water there. It smelled so good that I had fish sandwiches. It was a fun experience and made me feel part of the city.
Istanbul has a very long history. It began around 660 BCE when a Greek settlement (定居点) known as Byzantium (拜占庭) was founded on this site. It later grew into an important trading city on the Silk Road. Many cultures have mixed here, and it is very special. I hope you can visit it one day.

Dear children,
Good morning from Istanbul! Yesterday was great and today was even better. My day began by learning how Istanbul is a mix of many cultures. People from Europe and Asia have come here, bringing their own traditions and ways of life.
What I like most is Turkish music. Turkish music mixes old and new styles to create a very unique sound. It is beautiful and interesting. It makes me think of the songs your great-grandma used to sing at home. I also met a nice old lady named Aylin who baked very good scones (司康饼). I had a nice talk with her and was even invited into her kitchen to help her bake some scones, reminding me of my childhood in England! When I was young, your grandma didn’t let me eat too many scones. But today I baked them myself and enjoyed them with strong Turkish coffee.
My trip has been wonderful so far. I’m excited to show you more of Istanbul when I come back. I will write again soon with more stories!
