I am Mary. I love animals. On weekends, when I don't go to school, I volunteer(自愿做)to do something in a zoo.
I help the keepers give food to the animals in the zoo. I learn a lot about what animals eat. Like us, animals have their favourite food, and they also have food they don't like to eat.
Some animals such as cows, horses, rabbits and sheep only eat plants like grass and leaves. Tigers and some other big animals only eat meat. But bears eat both plants and meat.
On hot days, we make special treats(款待)for the animals. First, we put fruit like bananas and apples in water. Then we freeze the water. The animals really like their cold and good-looking fruit treats.
Volunteering in the zoo is fun. I learn new things and I think I'm getting close to my dream.
