An icy theme park opens

The world's largest theme park made completely out of snow and ice has opened in China. Harbin Ice and Snow World has huge ice sculptures, rides and shows. The frozen park is built anew each winter and is part of the Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival.
Tourists trapped
Freezing temperatures in Lapland on 11 January forced the local airport to stop flights and left thousands of tourists trapped. Temperatures dropped as low as $-39\ °\mathrm{C}$, making it hard to remove ice from planes and causing refuelling machines to freeze. The destination is popular with tourists who go to see the northern lights and enjoy the snow.
Flooding closes the park
Kruger National Park was made to close as heavy rain caused rivers to flood, covering part of the park in rushing water. Heavy rain in South Africa's northern provinces led to deaths and destroyed thousands of homes. Experts believed wild animals in the national park were not at risk, since they could find higher ground when necessary.
A surprise for shoppers
Shoppers at a supermarket in Burgsinn, a town in Germany, were surprised when a group of 50 sheep walked in through the doors. Shop workers had difficulty moving the animals. But a worker finally managed to move them by making noises to shoo them outside. The sheep probably walked quickly in while following someone carrying a bag. The animals might think the bag had something tasty for them.
