“Go, Sanjay, go!” we shouted. It was Sports Day at school, and the 100-metre race was the most exciting event of all. Our classmate Sanjay was running like the wind.
As they raced closer to the finish line, everyone started shouting louder. Then I noticed something interesting: many children had their hands around their mouths while they were shouting.
I remembered learning about sound. When we talk or shout, our voices make sound waves. These waves travel through the air. But when the sound goes in all directions, it becomes weaker.
But when we put our hands around our mouths, the sound waves go one direction.
Back at the race, something amazing happened. Sanjay ran even faster at the end and got to the finish line first! Our class won!
Sanjay held the big trophy(奖杯) high.
