Nick is my best friend, and we always share interesting things at school. This morning, Nick brings a green cake to school. It is the first time we have seen such a cake, so all my classmates feel very surprised and curious. It looks beautiful and special with a light green colour, and we want to know why and how his mother makes green cakes. Nick tells us the whole story happily.
Nick says his father likes watermelons very much. He thinks watermelons are sweet and cool, so he eats a lot of them in summer, even one almost every day on hot days. So there are always lots of watermelon rind(皮) at his home, and they are usually thrown away as waste. One day, Nick's mother sees a heavy garbage bag full of watermelon rind. It takes a lot of space in their kitchen, and she doesn't want to waste it. She thinks, "I should find a better way to use the watermelon rind."
In the end, she has a good idea. She wants to make a cake with it to turn waste into delicious food. She first cuts up the watermelon rind into small pieces. Then, she puts them in a blender and soon she gets fresh green juice. She mixes the juice with flour(面粉) carefully. After baking it for some time, she finally makes a delicious green cake.
Now, the green cake is popular with the children of the neighbourhood Nick lives in. They all love its special taste, and many mothers want to learn to make the green cake too.
