During the 2019—2020 fire season, big bushfires took place in Australia. The fires destroyed many animals’ homes. One of the most affected (受影响的) animals was the brush-tailed rock wallaby. Even before the fires, this small animal had already lived a hard life.

To help these wallabies, Australian officers took a special measure. *They used helicopters (直升机) to drop more than 2,200 kilograms of carrots and sweet potatoes. They chose these vegetables because they are nutritious (有营养的), and do not rot easily outdoors. They dropped the food in remote (偏远的), rocky areas. People could not get there easily by land.
Wildlife experts kept a close eye on the wallabies. They found the wallabies liked the food and ate a lot. This helped the wallabies survive (存活) until their natural homes recovered (恢复). Delivering food from the air is a smart way to save the wallabies in an emergency.

Monday
Even before the fires, this small animal had already lived a hard life.
They used helicopters to drop more than 2,200 kilograms of carrots and sweet potatoes.
They chose these vegetables because they are nutritious... be good for意为“对……
They dropped the food in remote, rocky areas.
This helped the wallabies survive... live through the hard time意为“熬过艰难时期”。
They used helicopters to drop more than 2,200 kilograms of carrots and sweet potatoes. use sth to do sth是固定结构,意为“用某物做某事”。more than意为“超过”。2,200 kilograms of carrots and sweet potatoes意为“2200千克的胡萝卜和红薯”。
