A lot of people are asking me about my new school, Brown's Free School. It's really hard to explain, so I give them an example(例子). It's Wednesday morning and it's time for the weekly school meeting. This week, one of the topics is “wheels(轮子)”. Kyle, one of the students in my class, suggests a new rule that students can bring skateboards, skates(轮滑鞋) and bicycles to school. Our teacher, Mr. Jackson, suggests that we can do this one day a week and the whole school votes(投票) on a “wheels” day for next Friday.
Here, at Brown's Free School, we make the decisions! We can choose(选择) to go to class, watch TV or play computer games, but most students choose to go to class—it is more interesting! When we don't like a class in the classroom, we can just walk out! At Brown's Free School, there is no uniform or exam. We choose what we study and how to study. We can study in groups or on our own. If you are at school and you want to study how a car works, the teachers will help you find a way to study it. If you want to start a new school magazine, you can tell the teachers. Then, they will find a way to help you do it. That is how Brown's Free School works. The ideas come from the students, and everyone works together to make them happen. It is a great experience(经历) and I love going to Brown's Free School!
