Wang Hong: During the Dragon Boat Festival, my family makes zongzi. They are delicious! My grandma makes sweet zongzi with red beans ( 红豆 ). They are my favourite!
Jenny: How do you make zongzi? I want to learn.
Wang Hong: First, we need some glutinous rice ( 糯米 ). We wash the rice and soak ( 浸泡 ) it in water. Second, we need to prepare ( 准备 ) the fillings ( 馅料 ), such as dates ( 红枣 ), pork ( 猪肉 ) and salted egg yolks ( 咸蛋黄 ). We also need some reed leaves ( 苇叶 ) or bamboo leaves and string ( 棉线 ).
Now we are ready to make zongzi.
Step 1: Take two or three bamboo leaves. Fold ( 折 ) them into a small cone ( 漏斗形 ).
Step 2: Put some glutinous rice in the cone. Add your favourite filling.
Step 3: Put more rice on top. Fold the leaves over to cover ( 盖住 ) the rice completely.
Step 4: Tie ( 捆扎 ) the zongzi tightly with the string.
