* 规则变化 (单音节词和部分双音节词):
一般情况下, 在词尾加 7, 例如, small 的最高级是 8, short 的最高级是 9 ; 以字母 e 结尾的词, 在词尾加 10, 例如, cute 的最高级是 11, brave 的最高级是 12 ; 重读闭音节词尾只有一个辅音字母时, 先双写该辅音字母, 然后在词尾加 13, 例如, thin 的最高级是 14, fat 的最高级是 15 ; 以 “辅音字母 + y” 结尾的双音节词, 先把 y 改为 i, 然后在词尾加 16, 例如, happy 的最高级是 17, noisy 的最高级是 18。
* 规则变化 (多音节词和部分双音节词):
在词前加 19, 例如, beautiful 的最高级是 20, interesting 的最高级是 21。
* 不规则变化:
good / well 的最高级是 22, bad / ill 的最高级是 23, little 的最高级是 24, many / much 的最高级是 25, far 的最高级是 26。
