2026年优佳学案暑假活动八年级综合人教版第52页答案
Mount Qomolangma, located on the border between China and Nepal, is the world's highest mountain, standing at about 8, 848 metres above sea level. It was formed by the collision between the Indian Plate and the Eurasian Plate millions of years ago. Climbing Qomolangma is a huge challenge because of the freezing temperatures (which can drop to -60 ℃), strong winds, and thin air. Climbers need to carry oxygen tanks to breathe at the top. The first successful climb to the summit was made in 1953 by Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay.
On the other side of the extreme, the Mariana Trench in the Pacific Ocean is the deepest part of the world's oceans. Its deepest point, the Challenger Deep, is about 11, 000 metres deep. If Mount Qomolangma were placed into the trench, its peak would still be more than 2, 000 metres under the sea surface. The trench was formed by the Pacific Plate sliding under the Philippine Plate. The environment here is harsh: the pressure is over 1, 000 times that at sea level, the temperature is near freezing, and it is always dark. Yet, strange creatures like deep-sea snailfish and giant amoebas have adapted to living in this extreme place.
Both Mount Qomolangma and the Mariana Trench show us how amazing and powerful nature is. They remind us that our planet has many secrets waiting to be discovered.
