As the saying goes, "Read ten thousand books and travel ten thousand miles". Travelling is a very common thing in modern society. In fact, centuries ago, some famous people already travelled around China and they got a lot from their exploration.
Xu Xiake is a geographer and writer in Ming dynasty. Born into a wealthy (富有的) Jiangyin family, Xu became interested in books about different places at an early age and wanted to travel. When he was 18, however, Xu's father passed away. He then started managing the family farm and taking care of his 60-year-old mother as tradition required. But his mother understood her son's love of travel and refused to keep her son at home. She encouraged Xu Xiake to travel.
Four years later, he started travelling throughout the Ming kingdom. In the next 30 years, he carefully studied the lands he passed through and recorded his experiences and many discoveries in his travel notes. His 600,000-word travel notes finally came out in 1776, about 135 years after his death. China Tourism Day is set on May 19th, the date when he started *The Travels of Xu Xiake*.
There was also a great traveller in the west — Marco Polo, a businessman born in 1254 in Italy. He is known as a travel king in the west. In 1271, Marco Polo with his father and uncle set foot on the road to China. It took him four years. Along the way, he met bad weather, a shortage of food and water and so on.
They reached Shangdu in Inner Mongolia in 1275. Kublai Khan gave them a warm welcome there and took them to Dadu.
Marco Polo's hard journey created one of the world's first best sellers — *The Travels of Marco Polo*. Medieval (中世纪的) readers fell in love with Polo's wonderful descriptions of faraway lands and got to know China and Middle Asia.

When he was 18, however, Xu’s father passed away. Four years later, he started travelling可知,在徐霞客十八岁时,父亲去世。
China Tourism Day is set on ... The Travels of Xu Xiake.
Medieval readers fell in love with ... to know China and Middle Asia.
5. A。 故选A。
