A loud, high noise stopped Laura Douglas where she stood. She turned quickly on the narrow dirt path. She thought she would see her cousin Cassie being attacked by a big, scary bear. Instead, Cassie was standing in tall mountain flowers up to her knees. The flowers covered the open field like a huge, colourful blanket.

"Cassie! You scared me so much. I almost died!" Laura complained sharply.
"Sorry." Cassie looked through her backpack for a different camera part. "These bright red flowers are amazing. I need a picture of this bright red colour!"
"Not again!" Laura said loudly. "I should have known it was a bad idea to bring someone who loves cameras so much on a walk!"
"Just a few quick photos, that's all."
"You don't know what 'quick' means. We have to go!" Laura pointed to thick fog covering the nearby mountains. "We're about to be covered by clouds!"
"We'll get back to the small hotel long before the clouds and rain get bad."
"Not if we walk as slow as a snail(蜗牛)!" Laura tied a red scarf around her hair. "I'm leaving! My parents will get really angry if we're not back soon."
Cassie bent down to look at a plant. "There's a bee hiding under here ... What a cute picture!"
"Goodbye! I hope you get back before it gets dark." Laura pulled the zipper on her jacket hard. "And before the big, wild bears start walking around at night looking for food!"
"Hey!" Cassie looked up suddenly. Laura was far away, her backpack bouncing as she walked fast. "Wait! Don't leave me here where there are big, wild bears! Remember the rule: never walk alone!"
"I'm tired of waiting! Even a bee is smart enough to get out of the rain!"
Cassie got her backpack and followed. "You're no fun!"
"And who's the one who's crazy about cameras? You have lots of photos of flowers, plus big ground squirrels, mountain birds, and a group of mountain sheep!"
"Yeah," Cassie agreed. "And brave little squirrels climbing up my leg."
The girls walked down the winding path quickly. Soon, the thick fog and cold, steady rain closed in on them. The path became slippery, and they had to walk slowly to keep themselves from sliding down the steep hill.
