The Terracotta Warriors and Horses shows us the life and culture of the Qin Dynasty. There are still some unsolved mysteries about the eighth wonder of the world.
Why were the Terracotta Warriors and Horses colourful?
History tells us Emperor Qinshihuang chose black as the most important colour. But the terracotta warriors were first painted with many bright colours. There are more than ten colours on their clothes, like red, pink, purple, blue, green and white. This is against the rule of “Qin people love black”, and no one knows why.

Together with warriors and horses, many bronze weapons(兵器) were also found, and they are still shining as new as they were 2,000 years ago. Experts found a special chemical layer on the weapons. This technology was not invented until the 20th century. We still don’t know how ancient people did it.
Who burned the Terracotta Warriors and Horses?
Most wooden parts in Pit(坑) 1 and 2 were burned down. Who set the fire? There are three guesses. Some think it was part of Qin’s tradition. But why wasn’t Pit 3 burned?
